"I had a dream where a man, robed in white, appeared with a large book in his hand"

Dugway, Utah 1963  "I went to bed on the couch in the front room at Dugway. During the night I had a dream where a man robed in white, appeared with a large book in his hand.  He stood one to two feet off the ground above me and brought the book towards me so I could read the cover.  It was a very large and thick book inscribed with gold lettering and gilded with gold trim. (The book appeared be in size like Whitney’s “History of Utah”)  The name of the book was “Ensign To The Nations,” which, of course, being interpreted  means the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He opened the book and began to turn the pages slowly and I began to read.  I saw quotations of Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, and many other prophets - both ancient and modern.  The words thrilled me and as the pages turned, I saw different Gospel subjects.  Some of the subjects I recall seeing were Adam, Plural Marriage, and United Order.

As I thrilled to the truths that were written, it suddenly flashed upon my mind that these writing were going to be mine.  At this, the dreamed closed.  When I awoke, I thought that someday I would be impressed to write a book.  Little did I know then that each of these many subjects would compromise a book.  At this time I had no intention to publishing anything nor had I ever considered buying an offset press.  Within a year I began to mimeograph some of my materials which soon led to printing presses."
